The Pig Transmitter consists of two parts. It includes two parts: the electronic transmitter on the pig and the electronic receiver working on the ground. First of all, the electronic transmitter carried by the pig runs in the pipeline and emits electromagnetic signals constantly and regularly. The signal then travels out through the pipe wall and overburden. The receiver probe receives the emitted electromagnetic signal. The receiver then sends a signal after processing. Finally, through the signal transmission between the transmitter and the receiver.
The operator can grasp the running status of the pipeline pig in the pipeline in time. When the pig is blocked, we can accurately determine the position of the pig in the pipeline. So pig tracker is essential equipment for intelligent pipeline cleaning
The pig tracker composition:

Working principle:
The emission source of the transmitter is the inductive coil in the LC parallel loop. Through the external magnetic field circuit of the solenoid, it transmits the alternating electromagnetic signal. It has a strong penetration ability of ultra-low frequency electromagnetic waves. So it can transfer energy to ground space. The receiver receives the electromagnetic wave signal to complete the tracking.
How to use the pig transmitter:
Working pressure and running speed:
Pigs can generally be used for cleaning or drainage operations in new pipelines. At this time, its working pressure can be water pressure or air pressure. We should choose an air compressor or water pump with a suitable displacement and outlet pressure according to different pipe diameters and pipeline lengths. When doing oil pipeline wax scraping and gas pipeline drainage, its working power can be the pressure of the conveying medium. No matter what kind of work you are doing, you must pay attention to two points:
Select the power source according to the diameter of the pipe, the length of the pipeline, and the elevation difference between the ball launching device and the ball receiving device. Make sure it has enough outlet pressure.
The operator should adequately control the running speed of the pig. The operating speed of the pig is controlled by the displacement. Therefore, the tee must have a displacement control device to control the displacement of water, gas or oil. This makes it easy to control the speed of the pig. Different job conditions, the running speed should be different. The speed of cleaning, draining and exhausting operations should be less than 2 m/s. For rust removal and wax removal, the speed should be less than 1 m/s. When the pig is blocked and the signal cannot be found, another pig (with a transmitter) can be sent to the sending end.
The specific operation steps for using the Pig Transmitter are as follows:
- Open the back cover with a special wrench (rotate counterclockwise);
- Insert the two parts of the plug-in switch together, paying attention to the direction;
- Experiment with receiver for receiving signal. If the receiver receives the signal normally, proceed to the next step;
- Check whether the sealing ring is in good condition. If damaged, the sealing ring needs to be replaced;
- Tighten the back cover (turn clockwise). Then we attach the transmitter to the pig. (The transmitter below Φ325 is in the pig frame. At this time, it is recommended to use a stainless steel frame to reduce signal shielding);
- Reuse the receiver as the receiver signal experiment. If the receiver receives the signal normally, the pig can be put into the tee. Then push it to the reducer and start the pipe cleaning job.
- After the pig is finished, open the rear cover. Then unplug the plug to disconnect the power supply.
Battery replacement method:
The electronic transmitter is powered by a one-time high-energy lithium battery. Check whether a new battery needs to be replaced before each pigging. to ensure continuous working hours. Dedicated batteries are provided by the manufacturer. When the transmitter is not used for a long time, the battery should be taken out and stored in a cool and dry place.
The specific steps for replacing the battery are as follows:
- Open the back cover with a special wrench (rotate counterclockwise);
- Unplug the plug;
- Unscrew the two tab screws and take out the battery tab;
- Take out the old battery (pull it out);
- Put in a new battery, and tighten the battery tab screws;
- Connect the plug-in switch (pay attention to the polarity and direction), and use the receiver to detect that the signal is normal;
- After checking that the sealing ring is in good condition, tighten the back cover;
- Use the receiver again for the experiment of receiving the signal. If the receiver receives the signal normally. Then the pig can be put into the pipeline to carry out the cleaning work.
- After the pigging is over, open the back cover. Then unplug the plug switch to disconnect the power supply.
Electronic positioning receiver:
Introduction
The electronic positioning receiver is equipped with a headset and a probe. This is a battery powered portable instrument. So it is suitable for field application. Because it can work continuously for 100 hours. It can mainly find and monitor the specific location of the electronic pig. For example: the position of the pig in the ball cylinder and monitor whether the pig is sent out. Whether the pig has entered the ball collection tube and monitor the exact position. The position measurement of the pig in the event of a jam in the pipeline. On the one hand, it can accurately locate, and at the same time, it can measure the buried depth of the pipeline. The maximum detection depth is 8 meters. The positioning accuracy is 7 cm. The working range is -10~+50℃.
The headphone jack is on the left side, which is a three-pin socket, and the headphone plug is three holes. The probe socket is on the right side, which is a two-pin socket, and the probe plug is four holes.
Usage and precautions:
- Power check: Before use, first check whether the battery power is sufficient, turn the power switch upward, press the ‘power check’ button, the pointer of the meter head is about ’80’ and can be used normally. If the pointer is less than ’80’, a new battery should be replaced.
- Power on: plug in the earphone and probe respectively. Pull the power switch upwards, and the indicator light to the right of the switch lights up. Start working after 30 seconds of warm-up.
- Adjust the gain: adjust the gain according to the buried depth of the pipeline. Turn the gain adjustment knob clockwise to increase the gain. Turn the gain knob counterclockwise to decrease the gain. In general, the gain is adjusted in the middle position. When the gain is too large, it is susceptible to external interference. When looking for a pig, the gain can be adjusted to be larger. Once the probe is close to the pig, a regular sound can be heard in the headset. The hands oscillate regularly, about once a second. The chaotic, unequal-amplitude wobbles indicate interference signals.
- Shutdown: Pull the power switch down. The indicator light to the right of the switch is now off. This means that it is turned off.
- Replacing the battery: The battery compartment is on the rear panel. Open the battery compartment cover and remove the old battery. Then replace 4 new AA alkaline batteries, and close the battery compartment cover. The battery should be removed when the instrument is not used for a long time.

Positioning operation
The receiver can also locate the stationary electronic pig. When the probe is perpendicular to the central axis of the pipeline, the maximum value of the two signals can be received at two points before and after the pig. When the burial depth is different, the distance between the two maxima is also different. During operation, you can move the probe while adjusting the gain knob. This causes the hands to swing to around 80% of the dial when the signal is strongest. Then the hand-held probe looks for the position of the minimum value in the middle of this maximum value. Increase the gain knob on one side until the gain is set to very high, and the signal is also very small. Or the pointer will not wobble.
The probe is offset a little forward or backward from this point. We can clearly see that the pointer of the watch head swings regularly. At this point, the position of the pig is below the point where the watch hands have no indication. Note that when looking for the two maxima and minima, try to keep the distance between the probe and the ground as constant as possible.
Measure the buried depth of the pipeline
Receivers and pigs can be used together. They can also be used to measure the buried depth of pipes, .
When the central axis of the probe is parallel to the central axis of the pipe. A maximum value is measured when the probe is directly above the transmitter. A minimum value can be measured before and after the transmitter. Let the distance between the two minimum values be A. The relationship between the buried depth H of the pipeline and the distance A between the two minimum values is: H=0.8A.
The receiving signal experiment is carried out as follows:
- Power on the receiver. Adjust the gain to an intermediate value.
- Keep the pig and the receiver probe a certain distance away. Make the pig parallel to the probe;
- The operator observes the receiver meter. The pointer of the meter head swings more than 50% of the scale, which means that the pig’s emission signal is normal.
